Pattern making workshop

Learn to make a pattern from a favourite garment.

Got a favourite dress that you love and has seen better days? Want to make copies of your favourite top or skirt? Then this class is for you! In this one-day workshop you will learn the skills required to trace and copy a pattern without the need to unpick anything. No previous pattern making skills required as you will learn the basics such as adding seam allowances, grainlines, notches and darts.

The workshop includes

• Guidance in techniques to trace a pattern from a simple garment

• Pattern making paper and equipment for use during class

What you will learn

• How to trace a pattern from one of your own garments

• How to add seam allowances, notches and ‘true’ your final pattern

What you will get

• A paper pattern of your chosen style

• Expert tuition from an experienced teacher

• Printed notes 

What to bring

• A simple garment with maximum 5 pattern pieces  (no pants, jackets, lined garments or complex styles as time will not permit these items)

• Pencil, eraser, sticky tape, tape measure, scissors, pins

What to wear

• Comfortable casual clothing

• Closed toe shoes

Appropriate for

• Anyone 15 and over who has an interest in learning to make patterns

• Basic sewing skills necessary to gain a full understanding of the pattern making process – the garment will not be sewn in this class!
